As the term of the 15th Lok-Sabha of India ends on 31st May 2014, the General Elections for the 16th Lok Sabha were held in April 2014 and the "National Democratic Alliance"/NDA led by BJP has dethroned the 2 terms rule of the 'United Progressive Alliance'/ UPA led by the Indian National Congress/INC of Mrs Sonia Gandhi with Dr.Manmohan Singh as the 13th Prime Minister of India (for 2 consecutive terms from 2004 till 2014).
Mr.Narendra Modi, the ex-Chief Minister of Gujarath (since 2001 to 2014) has been elected by the NDA/BJP as the Prime Minister-Designate of India.
Accordingly, Narendra Modi is taking charge as the 14th Prime Minister of India on 26th May 2014.
Note:
You might have noted that Dr Manmohan Singh had been mentioned as the 14th Prime Minister of India and Narendra Modi is mentioned as the 15th Prime Minister of India in some leading News Papers.
The obvious/possible reason for the above confusion/variation in the number of the Prime Minister of India is the 2 times Interim Prime Minister Mr.Gulzarilal Nanda has been taken as one of the Prime Ministers of India.
