Very sad that sachin tendulkar will be given Bharath Ratna award. Unfortunately on 15th August 1947 Midnight 12.00AM Britishers left their BAT and BOWL to spoil our nation. The Game of Cricket is not recognised in Olympics or Commonwealth game, It has been played by only 20 country's out of the 200 country;s in the world. If sachin deserves Bharatha Ratna then why not MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly ? Did they play for Self ?
Very sad day for the AWARD itself.

It is befitting that the legendary Sachin Tendulkar is to be awarded the highest civilian honor Bharath Rathna. It would be appropriate to confer this award to the Nobel Laureate Dr.Norman Borlaug, father of Green Revolution, the great personality who saved over billion lives from hunger. He helped us to create history from transforming our nation which was heavily depended on food imports to feed it's population and was holding a begging bowl in to a self sufficient nation. 2014 is the centenary year of Dr.Norman Borlaug.

Most of them deserve BR except Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. The current state of affair in the country is due to Indira. She has encouraged corruption and tried to demolish Institutions. What did Rajiv do for the country. Nothing except being accused in Bofors Scandal. And where are our eminent scientist like SN Bose, Bhava, JC Bose, Bhatnagar, Satish Dhavan, Sarabhai, R Chidambram and team of first Nuclear explosion and many many more. How about VG Kurien, father of White Revolution (Operation Flood.)

If awards like this is predominantly conferred on politicians then there is no future of science in India.Just think about it.

Mahatma Gandhi is father of our nation, it is bigger than Bharat ratna,
Subhash Chandra Bose was awarded Bharat ratna in 1992 but Supreme Court had denied the award bcoz the mistry of his death

I think, announcement of Bharat Ratna to Tendulkar must be in the category of art, which for him is making money and may be for the acting he has done for brands' endorsements.

Agree with you. Why do they not choose Amitabh Bachchan? The only reason His family relationship with GandhI family is not good!!!

Why not Amitabh Bachchan? Should he not be awarded because his family relationship with the India's most powerful political family is not good and they're ruling.

Very honest comment There are at list 10 persons in sports fraternity who deserve better than Tendulkar likewise Major Dhyanchand,Abhinav Bindra,Milkha singh,P.T.Usha,Kapil Deo,Sunil Gavaskar,Lender Paes,Sushil Kumar,Vishwanathan Anand,Ramesh krishnan& Ramnathan Krishnan,Amritraj, and others deserve for this prestigious award. This is again a wrong by confering this prestigious award to a wrong person. This bit of affair tells that what shall be the future of Science and Technology in this nation.

I congratulate the Government of India on conferring Bharat Ratna to Prof. CNR Rao. I believe that there are a couple of other deserving Indian Scientists for this award. For example, Prof JC Bose, Prof Meghnad Saha, Prof. S.N.Bose, Dr. H.J. Bhabha, Prof Vikram Sarabhai, Prof K.S. Krishnan, and many others who are not alive. I feel there are a few living scientists who also could be equally suitable for this award.

I am interested to know who recommended the name of Prof CNR Rao for this award. The tenure of Prof CNR Rao is not completely devoid of any blemish. As a Principal Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, he was involved in the wrongdoing in the publication of a paper. Prof Rao was the main author and his paper contain some portion of an article of S Ghosh, B K Sarker, A Chunder, Lei Zhai and S I Khondaker published in Applied Physics Letters. He had to offer apology to this effect. The Government, Press, and Scientific community of the world know the complete history of this event. This is a very serious matter. Dr Rao, a principal author, cannot abstain from the responsibility of such grave mistake. In the circumstances, he was expected to relinquish the post of Scientific Advisor immediately unlike present politicians. He never did that but continued to remain in the post. Do you like such scientist as Bharat Ratna in the circumstances?

Prof Rao now calls politician as “idiots” after his announcement as Bharat Ratna. I do not think he would have made such statements earlier. He held higher posts and now occupies highest positions in the planning and administration of Science of the Government. He is in a position to take actions on various issues concerned with Science in our country. What action he has taken so far in this regard until this date? Our fellow citizens would like to know from him in this regard.

Bharat Ratna is a highly contaminated and prejudiced award that is bestowed in a highly political and precarious manner. It is not "what you know but who you know". If you scan through the list with an open and non-political mind, you will find more than 1/2 of the 43 receipients are not fit to receive it!
The list omits personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Netaji Subhas Bose, Achrya J.C. Bose, Acharya P.C. Roy, Dr. S.N. Bose. Dr. Meghnad Saha, Udayshankar, Ali Akbar khan, Dr. H. J. Bhava, Dr. Sarabhai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the list goes on and on....................................
Not even one receipient is from Kerala or Punjab or Rajasthan. The list is dominate by Tamil Nadu, Maharasthra and UP. A high percentage of the list includes political leaders and appointees many of whom have not done much except feeding the cronies!
It will be good idea to stop awarding Bharat Ratna. India is making a mockery by awarding to wrong people, many of whom are there not because of their hard work, merit and intellect!!

NATIVE PEOPLE'S PARTY ; NATIVE VIEWS :

Many of the National Awards including Bharat Ratna are Brahminized .Videshi Brahmins should not have given such awards . The Bharat Ratna which is started from 1954 was given to first 3 Brahmins where more non Brahmins were more deserving than them.

We will stop giving such Awards to Videshi Brahmins . What religion they follow and advocate is inhuman , anti Hindu , Native people and Nation .

We will take back such awards given to Brahmins as they are Videshi.

Bharat Ratna award must be presented to the person devoted to the nation and Freedom of India only.
The sport persons are awarded for their Arjun Award it is enough.
The rest personality in Music-[like Lata Mangeshkar,Joshi] are fair for their Award because they have contributed long in Indian Music and Clasical Indian Misuc Identity.

One family has been awarded three (3) Bharat Ratna by the Govt. of India in the past years; Nehruji, Indiraji, Rajivji. Remaining two (alive) Soniaji and Rahulji also deserve for the award due to Gandhian Family, pl do'nt forget.

By giving Bharath rathna to a useless game-criket- idol ,that too to an individual from a traditionally anti national caste , will further belittle the value of this award

Congress Govt had not been fair with the countrymen . The real gems of this country Dr B R Ambedkar and Sardar Patel should have been considered for this award in the early fifties immdiately after 26th January 1950 .

yes sachin tendulkar deserve Bharat ratna

All the recipients were having real qualities in them to have received this highest civilian award, except Rajiv Gandhi. It is not known as to what credentials were there in his performance / personality which led him to the level of Bharat Ratna. If a comparison between Atal Behari Vajpeyee and Rajiv Gandhi is made, one would find that Rajiv Gandhi did not stand anywhere in front of Vajpeyee.

I think that some of the names of real "RATNA's of the BHARATare ignored while less meritorious individuals were awarded the Bharat Ratna. Can anyone forget the contributions made to the country development by the following great sons of mother India:
(a) Shri MS Swaminathan (The father of Green revolution in India)
(b) Shri Verghese Kurian (The father of white revolution in India) "The Milkman of India"
(c) Shri E Shridhar (The famous Metro man who contributed greatly to the development of Indian railways).

Bharat Ratna is mostly awarded to individuals on political considerations rather than their contributions to the country. Smt Indira Gandhi, former PM, who declared emergency in India and made the country a hell for the citizens to live in also awarded Bharat Ratna. What was the rationale behind granting the award to her. Similarly contributions to the country's development by some of the individuals in the list also very less.
So the criteria for award of Bharat Ratna should be his/her contributions to the country and should not be mere political and personal considerations.

Dear Shivendra Dahayat!

Thanks for your comment.

Dr.B.R.Ambedkar was born in 'Mhow', a town and a Military Cantonment area in Madhya Pradesh, when his father, an Army Officer was posted there.

His parents are 'Marathi' and they are from Ambavade village in Mandangad Taluka in Ratnagiri District of today's Maharashtra.
