Health benefits of Fish food

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Fish food is good for health in general and for patients with the following:-

  • High Blood Pressure.
  • Obesity
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes.

A diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids found in ocean fish and flaxseed oil is effective against cardiovascular disease. Obese/overweight patients treated for hypertension will be able to realize significant health improvements in maintaining ideal cholesterol levels and in controlling diabetic symptoms by having a daily meal of fish in their weight-loss diet.

While even small amounts of fish and fish oil are helpful in lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular risk, consumption  of large amounts of fish will cause impairment of glucose tolerance and worsening of diabetic symptoms. As too much of any good thing will become bad,  fish intake also must be in moderation and over-eating should be avoided.

The glucose tolerance of patients will improve because of the fish-plus-weight-reduction-diet. There will be a good change in fatty acid delivery to the liver, as a result of the profound reduction in blood lipid levels produced by n-3 fatty acids in combination with a reduction abdominal fat.
