Mrs.Lata Mangeskar, “The Nightingale of India” has been conferred France’s highest Civilian Award, the “Officier de la Legion d Honneur”/ “Officer of the Legion of Honour”. Mrs. Lata Mangeshkar has sung more than 30 000 songs in sixty years. The prestigious award will be bestowed on the eighty years old Singer Lata Mangeshkar during an official ceremony in Mumbai, hosted by Mr. Jerome Bonnafont, the 'Ambassador of France to India', on 2nd December 2009.
The Indians who had already been awarded this prestigious French Award are:-
- Mr. Satyajit Ray-Oscar Award Winning Bengali Film Director and
- Mr. Amitabh Bachchan-The Bollywood Mega-Star.
