An Indian Elephant has made a Historic Record by giving birth to Twin Calves

It is very rare for elephants to give birth to twins.‘Alka’- a Female Elephant in the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park’ in Orang at 150 kms from Guwahati in Assam, India has a made a new record by giving birth to twin calves (both females) on 16th December 2010, in her fifth delivery.The newly born twin female elephant-calves have a five years old sister staying near them.

The Forest Officials have made the necessary arrangements for:-
  • sufficient fodder and for
  • protecting ‘Alka’, her new born calves and the five year old calve from tigers in the forest.
