List of Medals Won by “Team-India” in London- Summer Olympics-2012

The Summer Olympics-2012 was hosted by the United Kingdom and was held at London from 27th July 2012 to 12th August 2012.

India took part in the London Summer Olympics-2012 and the “Team-India” consisted of 83 competitors to 
participate in 13 Sports, which is the ever largest team sent by India to participate  in Olympics since the year 1920.

The following is the List of Sports/Events and the number Male/Female Participants of “Team-India”:

The following is the List of a total of 6 Medals won by India in the London Olympics -2012 including 2 silver and 4 bronze medals, which  is the best performance by Indiain terms of number of medals won at any single Olympic Games, since 1920:

Silver Medalists:




Mr.Vijay Kumar in the ‘Shooting’ in the ‘Men's 25 m rapid fire pistol’ event on 3rd August 2012. 

He has become the third man ever representing India to win an individual silver medal after Mr.Norman Pritchard and Mr.Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore AND


Mr.Sushil Kumar in the ‘Wrestling’ in the ‘Men's 66kg Freestyle’ event on 12th August 2012. 

He has become the first Indian to win an individual medal in back to back Olympics as he had won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the same category.


Bronze Medalists:

Mr. Gagan Narang in ‘Shooting’ in the ‘Men's 10 m air rifle’ event on 30th July 2012.  He was the first person to win a medal for India in the London Olympics-2012.
Ms.Saina Nehwal in ‘Badminton’ in ‘Women's singles’ event on 4th August 2012.  
She is the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics and also 
she has become the second Indian woman to win an individual medal after 
Ms.Karnam Malleswari's bronze medal in Weightlifting in 2000.
Ms. Mary Kom in ‘Boxing’ in the ‘Women's flyweight’ event on 8th August 2012. She has become the third Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympic AND

Mr. Yogeshwar Dutt in ‘Wrestling’ in the ‘Men's 60kg Freestyle’ event on 11th August 2012.  
He has become the third man to win an individual medal in wrestling after Mr. K.D.Jadhav – Bronze Medalist in 1952 and  Mr.Sushil Kumar – Bronze Medalist in 2008. 

All Indians along with the family members, coaches, sponsors and the employers of the medal winners feel happy and proud on the "Team-India"'s remarkable performance in the London Olympics.

Let us wish and hope that the Government of India/Ministry of Sports and the sponsors will encourage, guide and extend financial and other aids for the aspirant and talented young sportsmen in various fields of sports and 
prepare prospective "Medal Winners" in various International Games Tournaments, including the next Summer Olympics-"Rio 2016" at Los Angeles-USA.
