List of Photo Identity Proof Prescribed by Indian Railways For Travel by Trains With All Reserved Tickets

At present, the following categories of passengers traveling in trains in India, in reserved classes have to produce original proof of identity during the journey for traveling :-

With E-tickets booked online,
With ‘TATKAL’ Tickets and
In all Air-conditioned (AC ) Classes on the tickets, except in III Economy/3E class.

Indian Railways, to further facilitate the travel of bonafide and legitimate passengers and to reduce the scope for misuse of reserved ticketing system by unscrupulous elements/middlemen has decided to extend the condition to carry a proof of personal identity in original for travel with tickets reserved through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for all the following Reserved Classes from 01st December 2012:

Second Class Sitting (2S),
Sleeper Class (SL),
III Economy Class (3E) and
First Class (FC)

The following is the List of Prescribed Photo Identification Proof in ORIGINAL for Train Journeys for all passengers travelling with ‘Reserved’ Tickets:

Voter Identity Card issued by Election Commission of India.(Voter Id)

Passport

IT PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.(PAN Card)

Driving Licence issued by RTO (ORIGINAL only)-The Colour photocopy of Driving License allowed for driving, by RTO is not accepted by the Railways.(DL)

Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State Government including the following:

Pension Pay Order s(PPO)
Ration Card with photographs (In Ration Cards the photo of the ‘Head of the Family’ only will be available)
Senior Citizen card
Below Poverty Line (BPL) card
ESI card (with photograph) issued for taking treatment in ESI Dispensaries
CGHS Cards (with photograph) issued to individual family members of Central Govt. employees.

Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students

Nationalized Bank Passbook with photograph (with Bank Seal on the photograph)

Credit Card issued by Banks with laminated photograph.

Unique Identification Card “Aadhaar”

Photo identity cards having serial number issued by

Public Sector Undertakings of State/Central Government,
District Administrations,
Municipal bodies and
Panchayat Administrations.

The existing rule of the 'Tatkal Scheme' where the passenger is required

to show the same original proof of identity as indicated on the reserved ticket shall continue.
