The present President of India, Pranab Mukherjee took his office as the President of India on 25th July 2012.
In a period of less than 7 months, Pranab Mukherjee, has so far disposed of the following 8 “Mercy Petitions” of death row convicts in 5 cases as detailed below:
The first mercy petition disposed of by the present President of India was the first and the only case in which a death penalty has been commuted to "Life Imprisonment" in the following case-
In the case of Murder of Step-Mother, Step-Brother and Step-Sister over Properties- Issues - by-
In the Case of 26/11/2004- Mumbai Terror Attacks:
In the Case of 2001-Parliament of India Attack Case-
In the Case of Killing 2 wives and a daughter Cases-
In the Case of Killing 22 police personnel in 1993 (Associates of Sandalwood King-Veerappan of Karnataka):

- 'Meesai' Madaian and
- Pilavendran.
The 4 Mercy Petitions have been Rejected by the President on 13th February 2013-Executions Pending.
In Total, the President Pranab Mukherjee, has so far (until 13th February 2013) disposed of 8 mercy petitions, out of which 1 case was a commutation of death penalty to Life Imprisonment and 7 rejections of mercy petitions.
