Appendicitis will occur in anybody, whether male or female of any age. But it commonly affects the people in the age group between 10 and 30 years. It will be more complicated in very young and old people.
The delay in the diagnosis and treatment of Appendicitis will lead to a complication called 'Perforation'. Perforation is a collection of infected pus or diffuse peritonitis, infection of the entire lining of the abdomen and the pelvis
When the inflammation surrounding the appendix causes the intestinal muscle to stop working blockage will occur which will prevent the intestinal contents from passing through. If the intestine above the blockage gets filled with liquid and gas, the abdomen will distend and nausea and vomiting will be there. Draining the contents of the intestine through a tube passed through the nose and esophagus and into the stomach and intestine will have to done.
Symptoms of Appendicitis are one or more of the following :-
- The abdominal pain around the abdomen near the center of the stomach
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Tenderness in the right lower abdomen
